Walkyrie 15 Jun 2010 at 8:43pm (Report this message) Hello all! I have been picking up and reading books on opera recently. I am frustrated that there is little for musicians, more from those telling me that opera is the artistic 'whole', rather than just a musical 'part'. It's a valid point, but of little interest to me, as I want to read/find out more about opera musically. I suppose I consider opera to be the most effective and flexible medium through which the composer can truely expressive himself/herself. Can anyone help with recommendations? My principal interests are: Mozart, Puccini, Wagner, and Richard Strauss. Thank you! |
