Forum: New season at the ENO
La Grande Macabre and Rigoletto

What a fantastic start to the new season at ENO.  Both productions provided total visual and auditory thrills.  No-one I have spoken to remembers the previous ENO production of La Grande Macabre but agree that this one will be remembered for a very long time.  It lies somewhere between slapstick and surrealism, awesome in scale, tantalising the senses, with outstanding performances both onstage and in the pit. Jonathan Miller's Rigoletto continues to delight and enthral me after 12 revivals.  My only regret is the absence of a quiff and DA for the Duke to comb through.

Still to come is Rupert Goold's take (away?) on Turandot - hold onto your hats!

Lucia and Elixir

What a greater contrast

Former is a load of old David Alden rubbish (laughable, a friend said)

The latter another inspired and lovingly detailed production from Dr Miller

No messing around, just tells it the way it is!
